Licensed pilot in the cockpit of a Cessna

FOR LICENSED PILOTS

Fly Yourself

Take the controls yourself on extraordinary routes around the world. We handle the complete planning, permits and logistics — you take command.

Whether a self-fly safari in South Africa, a scenic alpine flight, or island hopping across the Bahamas — Fly Unique designs pilot trips you won't find anywhere else: with personally vetted Cessnas, seamless licensing and checkout logistics, and luxury-class accommodations at every stop.

What you need in order to fly yourself

A valid licence and a valid medical are the prerequisites; everything else depends on the route and the type. Outside Europe the destination country's civil aviation authority will usually require your licence to be validated. In Namibia and South Africa that is routine, but it takes time, which is why we start the process early.

Before the handover there is a checkout on type, usually one or two flights with a local instructor. This is not a test but standard practice: anyone taking a Cessna 182 in Windhoek should know it in the environment they will fly it in. Density altitude, runway surfaces and procedures differ from what you know at home.

How much you fly yourself is decided as you go. On most routes a professional pilot can come along, so a long leg can simply be handed over in bad weather or when tiredness sets in. Whoever travels with you needs no licence at all, only a seat.

WHAT WE TAKE CARE OF

Licence and validation

We start the validation in the destination country early and tell you which logbook and medical records it calls for.

Type and operator

The aircraft follows the route, not a catalogue: from the Cessna 172 through the Cessna 208 to the Piper M600.

Route planning

Legs, fuel stops and alternates, matched to daylight, density altitude and the weather of the season.

Permits

Overflight and landing permits, proof of insurance and the customs formalities of every country involved.

Checkout on location

The operator's checkout is part of the trip, before you take the aircraft.

Where you stay

Houses that suit the airfield: a short transfer after landing rather than two hours in the dark.

HOW YOUR TRIP COMES TOGETHER

From a copy of your licence to the handover

  1. 01

    Enquiry

A call or an email is enough, along with a copy of your licence. There is no cart here: every pilot trip is planned individually.

  2. 02

    Route and aircraft

We choose the type and the operator to suit the route, the payload and your experience, and set the legs so that fuel stops, daylight and alternates line up.

  3. 03

    Paperwork

Validation of your licence in the destination country, overflight and landing permits, proof of insurance. You get a list of what is needed from you; we handle the rest.

  4. 04

    On location

A checkout on type with a local instructor, and then you are in the left seat. Anyone who wants to hand a leg over can hand it over.
